UFC Vancouver: Uriah Hall Outscores Antonio Carlos Jr.

Uriah Hall landed more of the punishing strikes against Antonio Carlos Jr. tonight, and the feared striker recorded his 15th pro win as a result.

Round one

Carlos Jr. came out pressuring but ate a hard right from Hall. Carlos Jr. clinched up moments later and swept Hall to the floor. Hall worked his way back up but with Carlos Jr. on his back. The latter’s nose was bleeding badly and appeared to be broken. Eventually, Hall worked Carlos Jr. off his back and scored with some jabs. Hall continued to land jabs as well as some rights. Carlos Jr., however, kept coming and took Hall back down. Carlos Jr. planted a few strikes from above before the round ended.

Round two

Hall continued to fire his jab to begin round two, and Carlos Jr. failed on his first takedown defense. Moments later, Carlos Jr. shot in again and pushed Hall to the cage. The two battled along the cage for a little while and Hall broke free. Moments later, Hall sent Carlos Jr. to the deck with a combo and he began firing down punches from above. Hall elected to let Carlos Jr. back to his feet, who promptly shot in, searching for a TD. Carlos Jr. briefly took Hall down but the dangerous striker popped right back up. Hall threatened with a flurry before the second round came to an end.

Round three

Hall came with a spinning-kick moments into round three that missed. Carlos Jr. clinched up not long after, however, and dragged Hall to the floor. Carlos Jr. had the back of Hall, and the latter was forced to defend rear-naked-choke set-ups, as boos rang out. Carlos Jr. started working a neck crank but Hall defended. The clock ran out with Carlos Jr. still on Hall’s back.

After the bout, Hall was awarded the split decision win, before he called for a fight with Israrel Adesanya.
