Eddie Money, Singer Of ‘Two Tickets To Paradise,’ Passes Away At 70

Fans of singer Eddie Money, known for hit songs like “Two Tickets To Paradise” and ‘Take Me Home Tonight,” are in mourning today after he passed away on Friday following a battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He was 70 years-old.

News of Eddie Money’s Passing

“The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning,” his family said in a statement, according to Fox News. “It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.”

Money’s real name was Edward Mahoney. The singer shocked fans just a month ago by revealing he had cancer in a video from his AXS TV reality series called “Real Money.” Money explained in the video that he learned he had cancer during a routine checkup. By then, the cancer had already spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

“What I don’t want to do is I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody,” Money said. “It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody. I want people to know that cancer [treatment] has come a long way and not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the ’50s and ’60s.”

“Am I going to live a long time? Who knows? It’s in God’s hands,” he continued. Money went on to confess that the diagnosis hit him “really, really hard.”

Eddie Money’s Music Career

Money released twelve albums during his career which spanned three decades. Back in 1987, he earned a best rock vocal Grammy nomination for “Take Me Home Tonight.” The hit song featured a cameo by Ronnie Spector. He is survived by his beloved wife Laurie, who he was married to for over 30 years. And his five children: Zachary, Jessica, Joseph, Julian, and Desmond.

“Eddie was a true American original and a rock legend through and through,” Mark Cuban, founder of AXS TV, said. “His enduring hits have been the soundtrack for generations of fans, and his one-of-a-kind sense of humor endeared him instantly to everyone he met. We have sincerely enjoyed working with him and his entire talented family on his reality show ‘Real Money’, and we extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Laurie; their children Zach, Jesse, Joe, Dez and Julian; and his many friends during this difficult time.”

Tributes for Money have been pouring in from celebrities all day.

“God Bless Eddie Money,” tweeted Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, with singer Debbie Gibson describing him as a “true legend.”

“Gonna miss you, pal. May God grant you peace,” tweeted comedian and “King Of Queens” star Kevin James. “Thank you for your incredible talent and kind heart! You and your family remain in my prayers.”

There really will never be another performer like Eddie Money. And his blue-collar brand of music. May he rest in peace.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
