Why Queen Elizabeth Took Meghan Under Her Wing, But Not Kate

A royal expert has just spoken out to say that Queen Elizabeth went out of her way to develop a close relationship with Meghan Markle so that the American would not feel isolated like Princess Diana once did. However, she did not do the same thing for her other granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton.

“Meghan seems to have forged a particularly close relationship with the Queen if you compare that to when other people have married into the royal family,” explained royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, according to Daily Mail. He went on to bring up the joint engagement Meghan had with the Queen last June when they opened the new Mersey Gateway Bridge in Cheshire just after she married Prince Harry.

“The Queen, last year in the first few months of Meghan’s entry into the royal family, made a particular and slightly unusual effort to welcome her in,” Larcombe said. “Unusual in the context of the trip on the royal train to do a royal engagement. I’m 99 percent sure she’s never afforded that offer to Kate.”

The Queen’s Past Mistakes With Diana

Larcombe then explained that it was “lessons of the past” that caused the Queen to go above and beyond in bonding with Meghan, as Princess Diana “pretty much felt like an outsider in the royal family.”

Larcombe’s comments came after it was revealed that the Queen had invited Meghan to come celebrate her 38th birthday with her at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, which was said to be a “great honor” for her. This, after reports came in that Meghan had been having a difficult time adjusting to the “strict” aspects of royal life.

“I think it’s very hard for her,” said British journalist Angela Levin. “I think she’s done brilliantly at some things. She’s marvelous when they are out and about. She’s very good at talking to people. It’s an awful lot to learn and she’s very energetic and keen. But it might be good for her if she took a little bit more advice. Before in her life, she was very used to making her own decisions. I do think it’s very difficult for her. This is a very strict, traditional path. It takes a while to get used to it.”

The wise woman that she is, it’s likely that the Queen saw that the adjustment to life as a royal would be a tougher one for an American actress like Meghan than it would be for a British citizen like Kate. Not only is Meghan adjusting to life as a royal, but she’s also adjusting to life in a foreign country that has a totally different culture, which makes this experience that much harder. It’s nice that the Queen is acknowledging this by making more of an effort to bond with Meghan, and we hope that Kate is being understanding about that.
