Israel Adesanya

A little while back, Dana White said he wanted to have Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya throw down in an Australian stadium, and as expected, that’s going to be the case.

The Herald Sun is reporting that UFC 243 will take place on October 5th in Melbourne, Australia. The host venue will be Marvel Stadium, which has a seating capacity of close to 60,000.

In the aforementioned report, White said this:

“I am pumped to go back to Melbourne for this massive event.”

“To have two champions in Whittaker and Adesanya fighting for the title on home turf is huge.

“This will be the biggest fight in Australian history”

Whittaker – Adesanya will serve as the card’s headliner. The latter, who fights out of New Zealand, earned a fight with Whittaker by defeating Kelvin Gastelum via decision in April. With that win, Adesanya took the interim 185 title.

The Australian based Whittaker, meanwhile, will be fighting for the first time since last June, when he defeated the middleweight crown with a split decision win over Yoel Romero.

So, this is pretty big news, albeit, not surprising. Chances are we’re going to see a lot of fighters from New Zealand and Australia added to this event in the coming weeks.
