Holloway UFC

After losing to now interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier in his last outing, Max Holloway returned to the win column tonight at UFC 240, by defending the 145 title via a decision win over Frankie Edgar.

Edgar came out with a lot of movement and fired off several kicks. Holloway, meanwhile, looked to stick the jab. Edgar changed levels but was unable to get a takedown. Edgar came with a nice combo a couple of minutes in and Holloway scored with a right. Edgar planted another calf kick and moments later, Holloway planted a nice uppercut.  Holloway threatened with a head kick shortly before round one ended.

Edgar scored with a calf kick moments into round two, and not long after, he scored with a left. Holloway fired another uppercut soon after. Not long after, Edgar shot in, but Holloway managed to stay up after bouncing off the cage. Holloway tagged Edgar with a jab and blood started to drip out of Edgar’s nose. The latter changed levels again but ate a right hand from Holloway. Edgar threatened with another change level but abandoned it soon after. Shortly before the round end, Holloway scored with a nice spinning kick to the body.

Edgar shot in early into round three but once again, was unable to score the TD. Holloway stayed busy with the jab before the two fired off rights. Edgar missed with a  spinning kick to the body, and not long after, Holloway stuffed another TD attempt. Late into round three, Holloway appeared to tag Edgar with a knee, but the legend countered nicely with a takedown. Holloway got back to his feet before the round ended.

Edgar shot in for a single leg moments into round four, but Holloway defended. Moments later, Edgar shot in but was denied. Holloway started to pressure more often, narrowly missed with a head kick. Edgar scored with a couple of nice combos, but later in the round, Holloway planted some hard shots. Before the round ended, Edgar attempted a TD to no avail.

Holloway continued to score with his jab,  and “Blessed” squashed another takedown attempt. Edgar flurried in and planted a hard right, and a bit later, tried another TD to no avail. Holloway planted more jabs and Edgar’s nose was more bloodied as a result. Holloway attempted a spinning kick that missed, which prompted both men to fire off more strikes before the final horn. Holloway was awarded the UD win.
