Tito Ortiz Outlines Why He’d “do a Lot Better” Against Jon Jones Than Daniel Cormier

Chances are most people wouldn’t give Tito Ortiz much of a chance if he was, for some reason, to fight Jon Jones. But recently the legend outlined why he thinks he’d be a tougher test for “Bones” than Daniel Cormier.

As you likely know, Cormier has faced Jones twice to date, and has lost both fights with his longtime rival. In their 2015 bout, Jones won the fight via unanimous decision, and in their second bout in 2017, “Bones” won via third-round stoppage. That win, however, was overturned to a no-contest after Jones tested positive for a banned substance.

Well, recently it was announced that Ortiz has signed with Combate Americas, and that he’ll fight former pro-wrestling champ Alberto Del Rio later this year. Ortiz was a guest on the Domenick Nati Show, and while discussing Jones, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” reportedly said this (quotes via Bloody Elbow):

“I think I would do a lot better against Jon Jones than Daniel Cormier, because Cormier is just a shorter guy (with) bigger legs, bigger torso,” Ortiz said. “He’s just a big, big guy.

“Jon Jones is long and lengthy. I’m going to get in the inside and try to overpower some of the positions.

“But if it would be Jon Jones, I would think I’d have a great chance against (him).”

“Yup, I think I could. If I have a camp like I did the last one of 18 weeks, 100 percent,” Ortiz reportedly said, when asked if he thinks he can beat Jones. “There really hasn’t been anybody to fight Jon Jones, to get in his face, and stay in his face…”

So…ya. It’s probably safe to say that way more people are going to scoff at these comments rather than agree with Ortiz. But, hey, do you really expect Ortiz to say no? That he couldn’t beat Jones?
