Most people have closed the book on CM Punk’s MMA career, but is the former pro-wrestling star ready to say he’s definitely hung up the gloves? Not yet.

If you’ve followed Punk’s fighting career over the last couple of years, then you know it hasn’t gone according to the star’s plan. Although Punk had never fought in a MMA bout, and had fairly limited training, the UFC signed him in 2015. Punk made his Octagon debut in September, 2016, and was quickly submitted by Mickey Gall.

Despite the one sided loss, Punk was given a second UFC fight, and he faced Mike Jackson last June. Although the 40-year-old showed a tonne of heart in the fight, he lost a clear cut, decision.

Well, due to those results, the consensus was / is that Punk’s days in the UFC are down. Some people have questioned, however, whether he might look at fighting for another, smaller promotion.

Well, recently Punk spoke with ESPN. When asked if he thinks his future in MMA could be tied to commentating (he’s been doing commentary for CFFC shows), versus fighting, Punk said this:

“Yeah, maybe. It definitely feels like that. There’s a gray area, obviously. Man, I would love to get a W, but I’m f—ing old. Training camps aren’t easy when you’re old and you have as many miles on your body as I do. I break everything down into, “Do I love this? No, I don’t love it? Then I’m not gonna do it anymore. And training and CFFC are things that I very much love to do, so I’m gonna continue to do them.

“I’ve said a long time ago, you never say never, and I think it’s kind of a billionaire’s mindset — if somebody offers you something, you say yes to it and then you figure out how to do it.”

And when asked about the fact he’s still training, and whether he plans to fight again, Punk said this:

“I don’t have any date. I don’t even know what I’m gonna do. I love the s— out of it, so I still do it.”

Punk was also asked if he’s on the UFC roster, and he relayed that he believes he is, since he “peed into a cup not too long ago.” So that’s pretty interesting to hear, since it’s been over a year now since Punk last fought.

The Chicago resident acknowledged he probably shouldn’t be on the UFC roster, but Punk also said he’s not going to ask to be cut. So, if you’ve said Punk will never fight in the UFC again, you might want to walk that back a bit…
