Wayne Newton Admits He Opened Fire on Burglars as They Fled His Vegas Home

Legendary Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton went before a Nevada jury on Tuesday to admit that he fired a gunshot when his home was being burglarized to scare the two robbers away.

Fox News reported that Newton recounted how he, his wife, and their teenage daughter came upon the two burglars in the second burglary on his home in a decade.

“My wife was in hysterics and crying,” Newton said, adding how his wife Kathleen told him that one of the burglars had raised a tire iron as if he was going to hit her with it before he attacked one of their dogs with a metal rod.

“She said, ‘Shoot ’em. Shoot ’em. There they are. He almost hit me with the pipe iron,'” Newton said. “I decided to take one shot in the air. That was the last time I saw them.”

The Newton family was not injured in the incident, but their dogs had to be treated by veterinarians for head injuries and broken teeth.

The 77-year-old singer gave this testimony at the trial of 22-year-old prison inmate Weslie Hosea Martin, who is accused of being one of the burglars. The second burglar has yet to be identified or apprehended. Martin was arrested in July of last year after it was found that various items he sold to a coin and jewelry business matched items from the Newton home. After being convicted on two unrelated burglary charges in 2015, Martin is now serving up to six years in prison for violating probation and being a felon in possession of a gun.

Newton Has No Regrets

Newton, who is marking his 60th year performing in Vegas, used a cane to walk up to the witness stand, explaining that he recently had back surgery. When questioned, he made it clear he had no regrets about using his gun to defend his family and home.

“Let me get this straight,” the prosecutor said. “So, your home is invaded on two different occasions. Your wife’s assaulted with a crowbar. Your dogs are beaten. You’re angry, right?”

“Very,” Newton replied.

I hope this is the last time Newton and his family have to face such a traumatizing event. He did the right thing exercising his Second Amendment rights.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
