Daniel Cormier

The nominees for the latest round of ESPYs have been released, and not surprisingly, three of them are either current or former champ-champs.

This year ESPN has split the Best Fighter award into boxing and MMA, and as a result, there’s now a Best MMA Fighter category. The fighters who have been nominated for the award include Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, Amanda Nunes and Israel Adesanya.

Cormier became a champ-champ last summer by taking out Stipe Miocic to win the heavweight title. “DC” vacated the 205 belt later in the year, which he defended in January, 2018 by stopping Volkan Oezdemir. Cormier closed out 2018 by submitting Derrick Lewis in November.

Cejudo ended Demetrious Johnson’s historic reign as flyweight champ last August, via split decision, before quickly putting away TJ Dillashaw in January. Then, earlier this month he also became a champ-champ by stopping Marlon Moraes to win the 135 crown.

Nunes defended the bantamweight title last May by finishing Raquel Penning, Then in December, she quickly took out Cris “Cyborg’s” to end her decade plus undefeated streak in MMA, and to secure the 145 title.

Adesanya hasn’t become a champ-champ in the last calendar year, but the vaunted striker did defeat the likes of Anderson Silva, Kelvin Gastelum, Brad Tavares and Derek Brunson, and he also won the interim 185 title.

So, there you have it. Who do you think should take the award?
