There are several Canadian fighters set to compete today at UFC Ottawa, including Octagon newcomer, and one of the nation’s rising fighters, Marc-Andre Barriault.
If you classify prospects as fighters who are say, in their early twenties or earlier, than Barriault doesn’t fight the bill, The Quebecois fighter is 29. But, if you view prospects as fighters who have done extremely well fighting regionally, and have just graduated to the international stage, then Barriault certainly qualifies.
Barriault will face Andrew Sanchez tonight riding an eight fight winning streak and an 11-1 record. Not only that, but “Power Bar” won both the middleweight and light-heavyweight titles with TKO MMA, one of Canada’s longest standing and biggest promotions.
In a recent report at UFC.com, Barriault had this to say about his UFC debut and Sanchez:
“After my first belt I was hoping UFC would make the call,” Barriault said. “But going forward I fought another good guy and won another belt. So now they have no choice but to sign me.”
“I have what fans want to see. I’m natural and instinctive. I’m always here to put on a great show so fans will love me.”
