UFC 241: Daniel Cormier Says Stipe Miocic’s Going to be “Done”, Following Their Rematch

Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic were pretty respectful and friendly towards one another before they fought for the first time in July, 2018. But, that’s not exactly the case as they get set to battle for a second time at UFC 241.

Recently the UFC announced that Cormier and Miocic are going to fight again on August 17th. The booking came not long after Dana White reported that Brock Lesnar wasn’t returning to the UFC after all. After Cormier ended Miocic’s reign as the heavyweight champ at UFC 226, the plan had been for Lesnar to challenge for the belt. Miocic let it be known that he wasn’t a fan of that plan, and the Ohio fighter repeatedly called for a rematch.

Well, things started to get heated between Miocic and Cormier as a result, as the two began to spar via social media. But, more recently, on an episode of “Talk and Talker”, Cormier had this to say about Miocic and their upcoming fight (quotes via MMA Weekly).

“Stipe can say ‘oh he’s an idiot and he’s this and he’s that’ but then I get to just kick his ass again. Ultimately, I had the last laugh in the whole thing with me and Stipe and I get to do it again. That’s kind of how that thing plays out”.

“…He’s going to be done. After this one, it’s going to be very hard for Stipe to get to back to where he once was because this one’s going to break him,” Cormier said. “Because I know what the second [Jon] Jones fight did to me. It almost broke me. But all my life experiences, my father, my cousin, my daughter, my roommate, all those life experiences allow me to keep things in perspective. Where as he really hasn’t had to do that.

“So when he loses in this spot, I don’t think he’ll be able to recover from it. It will be too much.”

This is pretty intense stuff. Is it accurate? Well, obviously Miocic and his supporters would disagree with Cormier, and from the outside, it’s impossible to say how he would handle a second loss (further, they probably would argue Miocic’s going to win). But, it is certainly true that a second defeat to Cormier would be a big setback for Miocic, in terms of his championship aspirations. Even if Cormier retires in the not too distant future, Miocic would likely need to record a couple of wins at least, before getting tapped for another title shot.

UFC 241 will take place in Anaheim, California.
