UFC 240: Miesha Tate Doesn’t Like Felicia Spencer’s Chances Against Cris “Cyborg”

Miesha Tate is impressed by the fact Felicia Spencer called for, and accepted a bout with Cris “Cyborg”. But, the former bantamweight champ doesn’t think the rising fighter’s ready for the legendary, former champ.

Spencer turned heads earlier this month at UFC FN 152, when she quickly tapped out fellow, former Invicta FC champ, Megan Anderson. After the impressive win, which took place in the 28-year-old’s Octagon debut, Spencer relayed it would be her honor to fight “Cyborg”.

Well, the latter proceeded to accept the challenge, and now the featherweights will battle at UFC 240, July 27th. More recently, Tate weighed-in on the match-up during the MMA on Sirius XM Show. Here’s some of what the retired fighter had to say (quotes via MMA Mania).

I admit Felicia’s tenacity, you know, her ambition. I don’t see how she wins this. Prove me wrong! You know, I hate to be overcritical of fighters, being a fighter myself, right, it can be very offensive and I think the fighters are sensitive that way. But if I may speak frank her, I just don’t think she’s ready for this right now. However, she is in the 145 pound division, she is a former Invicta champion.

We talked about the lack of depth at 145. Felicia Spencer did dispatch of Megan Anderson, but I don’t think Megan Anderson is that good. I think she fights at 145, and people are all on her train because of her physique- she is tall, like a gazelle, long and lanky and seems like she would be somewhat difficult to deal with, but when you break down her technical aspect, she’s really not that good on the ground and she can’t keep people from grabbing her, so she just doesn’t have a great style to really make waves in the 145 pound division.

…Be careful what you wish for. If Felicia proves me wrong, I will happily eat my words right now, saying that I just don’t think this is a good matchup for her.

Chances are Tate’s not the only person who feels this way. After all, “Cyborg” is one of the greatest female fighters of all time and she’s also a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So one would think that if Spencer can take her down, it will be a more competitive battle than what transpired in her fight with Anderson.

UFC 240 will take place in Edmonton, Alberta. In the main event, Frankie Edgar will challenge featherweight champ, Max Holloway.
