UFC 237: Alexander Volkanovski Outpoints Jose Aldo

Jose Aldo’s campaign to fight for a title one more time likely came to an end tonight at UFC 237, as Alexander Volkanovski outscored the legendary fighter for the win.

Volkanovski came out throwing the odd kick, while Aldo didn’t fire back with much. A couple of minutes in, Aldo started to pick up the pace, but Volkanovski was the busier fighter. Moments later, Volkanovski just missed with a spinning back fist, and not long after he clinched up along the fence. Aldo broke free and came with a flying knee that Volkanovski blocked.

Volkanovski continued to fire a steady stream of kicks to begin round two. Aldo tagged the contender with a hard jab moments later that pushed him back. Midround, the action was momentarily stopped after Aldo took a finger to the eye. Both men fired big punches when the action resumed and Volkanovski pushed Aldo to the fence. Volkanovski pounded away at Aldo’s thigh with knees, and eventually, the fight returned to the center of the Octagon.

Aldo pressed forward to begin round three, but Volkanovski countered nicely and pushed the former champ to the fence. Aldo worked his way out, but he was unable to land much in the ensuing exchanges. Volkanovski pushed Aldo to the cage once again. and worked more time off the clock.

Volkanovski was awarded the unanimous decision win, and after that was announced, he called for a title fight with champ, Max Holloway.
