It’s time!

Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement on Monday that the Duchess of Sussex was in active labor and on Monday afternoon announced the Duchess of Sussex had delivered a son.

“The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon,” the statement read.

The news of the labor and birth comes as royal watchers on both sides of the pond have waited to hear for weeks when the baby will arrive as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have holed up in their new residence on the Queen’s Frogmore estate away from Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Reporters and ardent royal watchers have been camped outside the estate for weeks, positioned to look for any sign that the baby was on the way or, in fact, born.

Questions remain over Prince Harry and Meghan’s new son.

Harry and Meghan kept much of the information secret surrounding the birth — Meghan chose not to have her first child at the traditional Lindo Wing Maternity Ward where William and Kate have welcomed each of their three children — including the fact that we now know they were having a son. There is certainly something special in saving certain surprises.

The baby boy is also not expected to be presented to the public as Prince Harry and his brother each were by their parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

What the royal baby’s name will be is also a subject of much speculation. Now that we know the baby is a boy, the options have narrowed but are still wide-ranging with bettors placing odds on a whole host of traditional and non-traditional English names.

The baby could also have some pretty high profile godparents, as it was recently reported that George and Amal Clooney are possible contenders for the prestigious role. The Clooneys activism sensibilities certainly fit in line with the same causes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are passionate about. Now that the baby’s here, we’ll soon find out all the details.

The baby will be the seventh in line to the British throne behind his father, William and Kate’s three children, as well as Prince William himself, and, of course, Prince Charles. But the question still remains, will he also be an American?
