Former Inmates Reveal What Cosby Is Really Like in Prison

Two former inmates of Bill Cosby discussed how the man once known as “America’s Dad” is dealing with life behind bars. Raheem Shackleford and Don Jones say that despite his conviction for sexual assault, as well as being legally blind now, Cosby is in good spirits.

“He’s just a person convicted and he’s serving his time. Nobody bothers him. Nobody threatens him,” Shackleford said.

Many times, those convicted of sex crimes can end up on the receiving end of prison justice from fellow inmates and guards, but Cosby is reportedly being left alone.

“When he first got there, the guards, they were a little star struck,” Jones recalled. But Jones also says that despite his status and six-decade career before his fall from grace for sexually abusing women, Crosby receives “no special treatment.”

Bill Cosby was sentenced in 2018 to three to ten years for sexual assault. He’s currently incarcerated at Phoenix State Correctional Institution in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Cosby’s routine sounds fairly typical for an octogenarian.

“He’d come out about 7 o’ clock, push down to the chow hall, eat his meal,” Jones said. “Come back to the block, watch TV, go to the gym if he wants to, which he never does.”

Recalling his first time meeting “The Cosby Show” star, Shackleford, who was recently released after serving 21 years for murder and armed robbery, said Cosby made a joke.

“I said, ‘How are you, Mr. Cosby?’ He said, ‘I’m rather fine.’ So I said, ‘How are they treating you back there?’ He said, ‘First class service.’ He keeps his humor.”

Of course, it’s not surprising that despite the seriousness of his charges, the 81-year-old’s unserious nature takes over and he continues to wisecrack while serving time behind bars. With Cosby’s sentence potentially being a life sentence because of his age, it’s possible the inmates and guards he lives with daily are his last audience.
