The rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor has reached new, vicious heights (or lows), and the UFC has apparently decided to intervene.
Recently McGregor and Nurmagomedov have been trading tweets once again, following the latter’s submission win over the Irish star in October. But, more recently, McGregor reportedly targeted Nurmagomedovs’ wife in a tweet, which he, or someone from this team, took down.
The lightweight champ responded by referring to a reported investigation from Irish authorities, regarding a sexual assault allegation that’s been brought against McGregor.
Since then, UFC President Dana White released the following statement (via MMA Junkie):
“I am aware of the recent social media exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor,” White said. “The ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is not acceptable. As such, we are taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps, and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally.”
So, will this de-escalate things? And if not, what might happen next to either McGregor or Nurmagomedov?
