Harassment of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton has gotten so bad that the British royal family has just broken protocol to address it.

Fox News reported that the royal family has just issued guidelines for their social media because of how bad the harassment has gotten. The royals said that they issued the guidelines to “help create a safe environment on all social media channels.” They went on to warn that anyone who breaks their rules will be blocked and reported to the authorities.

“We ask that anyone engaging with our social media channels shows courtesy, kindness and respect for all other members of our social media communities,” the royals stated.

“We reserve the right to determine, at our discretion, whether contributions to our social media channels breach our guidelines. We reserve the right to hide or delete comments made on our channels, as well as block users who do not follow these guidelines,” they continued. “We also reserve the right to send any comments we deem appropriate to law enforcement authorities for investigation as we feel necessary or is required by law.”

Meghan and Kate hit with attacks as rumors of feud grow

As rumors of a feud between Meghan and Kate have grown in recent months, the two have been hit with numerous sexist and racist comments from the public. Palace aides have to spend hours each day monitoring the royal social media accounts and removing negative comments.

“Over the course of last year, with hundreds of thousands of comments, there were two or three that were violent threats,” a royal source said. “You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people. It’s something you have to manage because there’s no other way to control it.”

It’s sad that we live in a day and age when the royal family is forced to issue guidelines on something as trivial as social media because of the harassment that they are receiving. Kate and Meghan deserve all the love and respect in the world, especially when the latter is set to give birth to her first child in just a few weeks time. We can only hope that these guidelines work and that Kate and Meghan are treated with more respect going forward.
