-On the Road to WrestleMania, we’ve seen several rumored programs for John Cena. As of now, all have fallen apart.

First, Cena was slated to face WWE’s newest main roster monster, Lars Sullivan. This went all sorts of sideways as Sullivan reportedly dealt with some mental health issues. He has not yet made his long promised debut, so that possible match seems unlikely.

With Kurt Angle announcing WrestleMania will be his farewell match, many had thought this was a perfect landing spot for a Cena cameo. However, as we saw on Monday Night RAW, Angle declared he was facing Baron Corbin. Many fans (and family) were not pleased with this decision. There are still rumors it could change, but that’s what has been booked for now.

Now, as of Tuesday’s SmackDown, the third option is gone too. With former champ R-Truth emulating Cena, and new champ Samoa Joe disparaging him, many thought we could get a Cena-Joe clash in New Jersey. However, we learned last night that Rey Mysterio will be the man to challenge Joe.

Per Wrestling Observer, with Cena off filming a movie, right now WWE has no plans for the Superstar. Of those three programs, there’s still a chance for Cena to have one of them come to fruition, but time is running out. It’s possible we see him make a brief cameo, or that he may not appear at all.

-Speaking of Mysterio challenging for Samoa Joe’s United States Championship, this was a big change of plans-but not for the expected reasons.

While many expected Cena to land that match, the Observer reports that it actually meant plans for another match were altered too.

In recent months, Andrade and Rey Mysterio have enjoyed a nice feud. They’ve given us numerous entertaining matches, and the plans had been for the pair to work a match on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Now, for reasons not yet known, those plans have changed.
