Since Conor McGregor abruptly announced his retirement, there’s been speculation as to whether his decision could be the result of an impasses in talks with the UFC. While Dana White isn’t saying that’s the case, the UFC President’s confirmed he recently told McGregor the star was not going to get shares in the company.
McGregor has said in the past that he believes he’s earned a stake in the UFC, and recently the former champ repeated that claim. Since the Irish star announced his retirement, White appeared on TMZ to discuss the situation. White reported that McGregor did relay to him via text recently that he wants equity in the UFC, and that White said that’s “not going to happen.”
White went on to say that if McGregor wants to own a part of the UFC he’ll need to buy shares in the promotion.
On Tuesday a member of McGregor’s legal team denied that his retirement is tied to a recent report that the fighter is being investigated due to a sexual assault allegation. The statement also relayed that McGregor will only return to fighting in an “environment where fighters are respected for their value, their skill, their hard work and their dedication to the sport.”
