Former UFC champion Conor McGregor announced his retirement from MMA.

McGregor, who had previously done the same via social media, declared he had “decided to retire from the sport formally known as ‘Mixed Martial Art.'”

Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.
Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!

McGregor has been at a standstill with his career since a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title late last year. In 2017, he fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news via text with ESPN.
