Conor McGregor is Willing to Take Co-Headlining Spot, But Has Interesting Condition For UFC

Recently there’s been talk that a hurdle for making Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor a reality, is that the UFC wants it as a co-main event, and that the latter’s not down. Well, according to the Irish star, that’s not the case…exactly.

For sometime now, there’s been buzz about McGregor and Cerrone fighting, as both men, including UFC President Dana White, have made it clear they’re on board with the match-up. More recently, however, there’s been reports the fight hasn’t been finalized yet, due to the aforementioned issue regarding the co-main event slot. For a while now, the UFC has been using title fights for its headliners on pay-per-views.

Well, while talking to fans recently in Chicago, McGregor had this to say, while discussing whether he’d be willing to co-headline (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I’m ready to fight,” McGregor said. “I’ve said that, no problem. If the UFC wants me to slide into that co-main event and help, what that is, me sliding into the co-main event, it’s boosting their brand over fighter rhetoric that they have. There’s no problem with that. But if they want me to push that – and I have no problem pushing that – give me my rightful shares in the UFC company. That’s all I ask. You can put me on the first fight of ESPN+, no problem. So let’s see how it goes.”

So, ya, we’ll see how it goes, but it would be pretty surprising if the UFC went this route, as mostly investors, and not fighters, currently make-up the ownership group. Then again, you just never know when it comes to McGregor.

This report comes not long after McGregor was quoted at a St. Patrick’s Day parade that he’s in negotiations for his next bout, and that he’s targeting July for his return.
