UFC 235: Jon Jones Outlines Why He’d Rather Face Brock Lesnar at HW Than Daniel Cormier

Jon Jones has never sounded keen to fight Daniel Cormier at heavyweight and now the UFC’s 205 champ has said he’d rather fight Brock Lesnar at that weight class.

Talk about Jones and Cormier fighting for a third time has been making the rounds ever since “Bones” returned to action last December. Since Cormier still holds the heavyweight title, and because he vacated the light heavyweight belt, there’s been extensive discussion about whether Jones would move up in weight to fight “DC”.

But, Jones has argued that Cormier needs to face him at 205, since, he’s already beat the latter twice at that weight class (one victory was overturned to a no-contest). He’s also said that the UFC would need to come with a ton of money, in order for him to consider fighting his rival at heavyweight.

Well, since Jones has expressed an interest in fighting Lesnar before, the champ was asked this week who would he rather fight at heavyweight: the pro-wrestling star or Cormier? Jones said the following (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I’d take Brock Lesnar,” Jones said. “I’d take Brock Lesnar because he brings in a whole different audience and people have already seen me make ‘DC’ cry twice already. I’ve got nothing against that guy. Let him have his heavyweight dominance.”

“The reason why I think it would cost more for me is because Daniel Cormier is considered by most people, by some people I should say, as the greatest of all-time,” Jones said. “And to fight the greatest of all-time when he’s weighing 30 pounds more than me, it’s dangerous no matter who you are. I want to make it worth my while because ultimately my health is on the line.”

As it stands right now, it sounds like the UFC still plans on having Lesnar fight Cormier next. So, the question above is moot. Jones, as you surely know, is scheduled to face Anthony Smith at UFC 235 this Saturday.

Here is the line-up for Saturday’s card.
