Roman Reigns: On GMA, Who Knew About His Return, & Fastlane Match

Roman Reigns made a splashing return on Monday Night RAW this week, got a huge pop from the live crowd, and announced that his leukemia is now in remission. The WWE Universe celebrated this incredible news, with posts on social media from people within the business, WWE superstars, and fans alike.

Last night’s heartfelt announcement by Reigns was followed up with an appearance on Good Morning America (GMA) some hours ago. Full interview below:

As per Ringside News, Roman’s return to the WWE was 100% his own call to make, and that Chairman Vincent Kennedy McMahon was the first Reigns reached out when he found out he was in remission. This was considered quite privileged info, and the only people that knew exactly what Reigns was going to announce last night were: VKM, HHH, Stephanie McMahon, Michelle Wilson, and Kevin Dunn.

Not only did the Big Dog make a huge comeback last night, but fans got treated to a tease (of sorts) around a Shield reunion. He wasn’t booked in a bonefide match, but Reigns did enter that squared circle, along with Seth Rollins, to save Dean Ambrose after he was attacked by Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Elias. As per Ringside News, it appears that The Shield will play a role in the next WWE pay-per-view (PPV) Fastlane, to some capacity. Not hard to see that the WWE Creative is crafting an angle where Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns would go up against Drew, Baron, and Bobby; however, Elias was also in last night’s segment, which may have a few eyebrows raised.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that Braun Strowman could also be added to the match, creating an eight-man tag dynamic. This would not only give the WWE Universe the Shield reunion they are yearning for, but with added superstars in the bout, this gives a buffer to some talent that may need to be protected. Seth Rollins might still have to watch that back injury with his Wrestlemania 35 match on the horizon, and Roman Reigns is still easing into training after successfully kicking cancer’s butt. Therefore, adding Braun Strowman and Elias to this Fastlane match makes a ton of sense.
