Georges St-Pierre Has Officially Called it Quits on Storied Career

Yesterday it was reported that Georges St-Pierre was going to officially announce his retirement today at a press conference in Montreal, Quebec, and the former UFC champ did just that this morning.

During the press conference, St-Pierre said there’s “no tears” as a result of his decision, and that it was “time” to retire. The former welterweight and middleweight champ also noted that it’s important to retire “on top”, which the Canadian star was able to do.

St-Pierre repeated that he had been interested in fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he also said he understood why the UFC wasn’t willing to have someone challenge for the lightweight title, who wasn’t committed to fighting longterm.

The humble legend also credited Royce Gracie and NHL great, Wayne Gretzky, for motivating him to enter fighting and professional sports.

The 37-year-old GSP closes out his career with an awe-inspiring record of 26-2, on a 13 fight winning streak.
