Recently there’s been extensive speculation that Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor could be throwing hands in the not so distant future. But recently Dana White put the brakes on all that talk, hard.
Cerrone has been driving for a fight with McGregor for a while now, and after he defeated Alex Hernandez last month, McGregor said he was on board. More recently, Cerrone told fans he was “definitely” going to fight the former champ, and teased the fight would be for an interim 155 title.
Then, Joe Rogan reportedly relayed on his podcast that the fight was set, but when TMZ caught up with White for confirmation, the UFC President told the outlet this:
“Not true. Not even close.”
“It’s not even close to being done.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean the fight’s not going to happen, and White has expressed an interest in booking the match-up. Anytime you have a star as big as McGregor involved, ironing out all the details can take some time. It could also be that McGregor, his team, and the UFC are still considering all of their options, in terms of who the “Notorious” one will fight next.
