AEW Star Needs Surgery + WWE Intergender Match Not Happening?

-Late last year, before All Elite Wrestling was even an official thing, Cody Rhodes injured his knee. The injury first occurred during a Ring of Honor match. Rhodes has not, thus far, gotten the injury remedied.

After a recent bout, which Rhodes himself called “a stinker”, it seems that the AEW Executive Vice President is going to finally have the surgery required to make him 100% again. No official word on when The American Nightmare will go under the knife, but based on his Tweet, it’s going to be sooner than later.

No word yet on if the surgery would make him unavailable for Double or Nothing, which happens May 25 in Las Vegas.

-In recent weeks, WWE has been teasing something between Nia Jax and Dean Ambrose. Nia Jax took out Ambrose on RAW a little while back, in a move some thought was meant to cut the short timer off. This followed Nia Jax attacking R-Truth and entering the men’s Royal Rumble.

As recently as last week, WWE was even advertising a match pitting Dean Ambrose against Nia Jax.

As of this morning, that match appears to have been scrapped.

Per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, the intergender match, advertised for a house show, has been cancelled. It’s entirely possible that the match was never expected to happen, in spite of the advertisement. After all, as per the well known disclaimer, “card subject to change”.

Given Dean Ambrose‘ short term status as he exits the company, it is entirely possible someone in WWE wanted to float this unconventional and possibly controversial match out there to gauge public perception. If it was damaging, it wouldn’t matter much for Ambrose as he is leaving soon. Any damage to his character would be of no consequence, as he isn’t likely factoring into any major storylines on his way out.
