Tyron Woodley repeatedly said he wants to fight his rival Colby Covington next, but it looks like the welterweight champ’s going to battle surging contender, Kamaru Usman.
For weeks, Woodley and Covington have traded verbal shots. But following Usman’s impressive win over Rafael dos Anjos in November, Dana White said Usman could be next for Woodley. More recently, White said Usman would be challenging for the title, and now ESPN’s reporting that’s going to happen on March 2nd at UFC 235.
MMA Junkie is also reporting that it’s been informed by a source Woodley – Usman is planned for the card.
Usman enters the fight having won all 9 of his UFC bouts to date. In Woodley’s last title defense, at UFC 228 in September, he submitted Darren Till.
Now it remains to be seen what’s next for Covington, who appeared to be the front-runner to face Woodley next, until last fall. The now-former interim champ was offered a bout with Woodley in September, but due to his plans for undergoing nasal surgery the fight didn’t materialize.
So, UFC 235 is shaping up pretty, pretty nicely. Provide Jon Jones can get a license from the Nevada Commission, the light-heavyweight champ is expected to fight Anthony Smith at the event as well.
UFC 235 will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
