UFC president Dana White told TMZ that Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight title against Anthony Smith at UFC 235, assuming there are no complications getting Jones his fight license in Las Vegas.
“Later this month, Jon Jones will file an application for licensure with the NSAC in order to compete at UFC 235 in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 2nd,” White said. “Provided that license is granted, Jones will be defending his light heavyweight title against Anthony Smith in a five-round main event at the T-Mobile Arena.”
Jones won the vacant title with a victory last month over Alexander Gustafsson. The bout was his first in over a year after serving a suspension. Smith, meanwhile, has reeled off wins over the likes of Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to climb the rankings at 205 pounds.
