The McMahon family promised “big changes” coming to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in the weeks and months ahead, and we have an exclusive first glimpse at one of those changes: a completely re-imagined set for the company’s flagship TV program, Monday Night Raw.
Sources within WWE say the new look is intended to capture the “gritty” feel of independent wrestling, as WWE executives have noticed the success of “indy” shows such as ALL IN, Ring of Honor, and Idaho Championship Wrestling’s recent Boise Bash (which received an unprecedented nine-star rating from wrestling journalist Dan Mutzler).
Although the new set lacks the gloss and razzle-dazzle of the last one — the Titantron, for example, has been replaced with a portable projector and collapsible white screen — it will reportedly save the company more than $6 million per year, as it can be assembled in an hour by a four mid-carders.
