Following extensive speculation about whether the UFC could land a new headliner for a January 26th card in Anaheim, it’s being reported that UFC 233 is no more.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first outlet to report that the card has been canceled, and MMA Fighting is reported that the card scheduled for February 9th in Melbourne, Australia, will remain as UFC 234.
Initially, a fight between bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw and flyweight champ Henry Cejudo was scheduled for UFC 233, but the company moved that fight to its January 19th card in Brooklyn. That event also marks the beginning of the UFC’s broadcasting deal with ESPN+.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani is also reporting that the UFC is looking at moving the welterweight fight between Robbie Lawler and Ben Askren to the UFC’s March 2nd card in Las Vegas. The two were scheduled to fight at UFC 233.
Bellator is also holding a card in Inglewood, California, January 26th, which will feature Fedor Emelianenko taking on Ryan Bader in the heavyweight grand-prix finals.
