Is It Time For Miz To Turn Babyface?

The McMahon Family showed up on RAW a week ago and declared that both brands were due for a shake up. New names coming up from NXT (or, presumably, some free agents?). New opportunities for existing talents. A whole new era, in theory. It was made out to be a big deal, though surely some felt the announcement didn’t actually do all that much. In the shows since the shake up was announced, we have seen several mid-card types seize the brass ring. But, what if new opportunities aren’t just about the under-utilized talents getting a shot at bigger and better programs? What if it means a shift for some top tier talent? Specifically in this case…is it time for the Miz to turn babyface?

I think there can be a case made for turning him. I also do think there is a case to be made for keeping him as a heel, or perhaps even pushing him further into the heel role. And we will dive into both options now and see which might make the most sense.

The case for face

I’ve heard rumblings for a while, and I’ve kicked this around for a while too. The thought process ramped up, however, when Daniel Bryan turned heel. You see, Bryan and Miz have unfinished business as far as their long simmering feud is concerned. Oh, sure, they’ve had matches. I just don’t think most fans consider this feud over or even remotely close to resolved. Now, if you believe this to be true (and you should), as things currently stand, we won’t see them one on one in an advertised match for a while. WWE just can’t expect a heel versus heel match to sell well-unless, of course, fans are anticipating a telegraphed character turn.

And this is where the turn comes in. Just a month or so into the New Daniel Bryan character, there is virtually no way on Earth that WWE throws in the flag and turns Bryan back to a babyface in the next three to six months. This leads us to one of a few situations: either the possible Bryan/Miz program is dormant, or Miz could be getting a face turn, or we can give up hope of trying to see Miz and Bryan for the title any time soon.

I think WWE knows they have a largely untapped program featuring Miz and Bryan, one that they would love to capitalize on. The best way, regardless of what you think of The Miz, would be to turn Miz and set up a huge WrestleMania match for the title.

The case for heel

This is easy to make. Also, it’s easier to do than to turn the man face. Forget his popular reality show, or any of the extra added benefits of his acting career outside the ring. In the ring, he’s been a heel for forever. He’s reliable and dependable. He’s quietly become one of the most prolific Intercontinental Champions ever. Basically, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? And, it’s not broken. But perhaps it could be better?

Better in the sense that, if WWE chooses to keep Miz a heel, then they might want Miz to find a deeper darker place to go to. He might have to channel his inner Orton and become truly devious. Devious in a way we’ve never seen him go. In other words, put him in a position to truly become any brand’s undisputed alpha heel. As good and dependable as The Miz is, there’s always room for improvement.

Folks, I could go either way on this, I really could. However, I think it’s time to see what Miz could do if he were a babyface.
