UFC 230: Daniel Cormier Just Might Be The Greatest Of All-Time*

Daniel Cormier’s resume reads like one that would make anybody in the world of MMA blush.

The reigning UFC heavyweight champion defends his title against Derrick Lewis Saturday night at UFC 230 from Madison Square Garden in New York City. He also held the light heavyweight title, but is expected to be stripped of that belt.

When discussing the greatest of all-time talk, it is easy to get carried away with who beat who. But is Cormier’s “who beat who” the best of the best?

Full disclaimer, the asterisk attached to the headline is there for one simple reason: Jon Jones. Twice, Cormier has fought Jones, and twice, he has lost. One of those was reversed to a no-contest due to a failed drug test. Jones’ in ability to stay out of trouble has put a damper on his claim to the top status, and at the same time, also left a cloud of Cormier’s.

This past July, Cormier stepped inside the Octagon with the baddest man on the planet, Stipe Miocic, and finished him inside of the first round. Miocic had ran through the elite in the heavyweight division, but he had no match for “DC” in this one.

Cormier started his year off with a successful title defense against Volkan Oezdemir, adding to wins over the likes of Anthony Johnson, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Alexander Gustafsson since his lone official career defeat to Jon Jones back in 2015.

Prior to that, the former Olympian and earned wins over Dan Henderson, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, Josh Barnett and Antonio Silva. Mir and Barnett have each held the UFC heavyweight belt, while Henderson and Silva were both title contenders.

Plain and simply put, the resume that Cormier has put together is one of the best anybody in MMA has ever accomplished.
