SmackDown In A Nutshell: Suffering From A Hangover?

It’s time for the SmackDown after Survivor Series, and what a PPV it was. In actuality, it’s probably a show that most on SmackDown would rather forget-they lost a lot of matches. All that being said, we had some big performances out of several top Superstars, such as Daniel Bryan and Charlotte Flair. So will there be any repercussions from Sunday evening?  Will the roster be suffering from a hangover? Let’s crack open this Nutshell and find out!

Best Match of the night:

Do I really need one here?

OK, fine…if I must, I’d go with the main event. But it wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire.

Worst match of the night:

Charlotte and Billie Kaye. The segment leading up to it was brutal. The match following it was even worse. I don’t know if you’d call it poor execution or poor writing or a combination of those things, but this should have been…or at least, could have been, something so much better than what we ended up with. I mean, one minute Paige was like, hey great, we loved seeing you beat the snot out of Rousey. But, yeah, we have to fine you, and oh yeah, fight Billie.

Just a weird way to get things started.

And then, after that, they had Charlotte fight Peyton too?

Crowd Chants of the Night:

Becky! Becky!

Miz is awesome

Star of the Night

I just can’t in good conscience award this tonight. Really disjointed and awkward show, basically from start to finish. If you missed it live, it’s not worth the watch later.

Spot of the Night:

Interesting RKO when Rey slid under the bottom rope toward Orton. Not likely the most devasting, but still neat looking

Jobber of the Night:

On a night where we have the Bryant brothers…they do not win this. Instead, this one goes to…The Miz!

Upset of the Night:

The Bryant Brothers over Miz and Shane

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

How about…holy sh!@ this show was not fun to watch?

Botch of the night:

One minor one, but the first time, early in the match, that Rey went for the 619, Orton bailed. But Rey had issues with his grip on the ropes, and didn’t do his usual swing and miss spin through the ropes.

LOL Moment of the night:

OK, this is just me and my special humor (maybe). But when Cole was shouting about how Orton was trying to rip off Rey’s mask, and that Mysterio just wanted to cling to his anonymity, how could you NOT laugh? In fairness, I am 40…but anyone who has followed wrestling for a while, or who has watched old matches, you know that Rey has been unmasked before.

So yes, when Cole said it, I laughed.

Noteworthy Moment:

I guess Paige fining Charlotte 100 grand was a big deal…but fans should fine WWE a similar amount for tonight’s mess.

Overall lowlights:

Can I go with like, the entire show? I saw others with similar gripes during the broadcast. If this was all about just mailing things in, then I’d rather see WWE run a highlights show or something. Give the crew the night off before a big and long holiday weekend. There are worse things in the world to do.

I mean, folks actually paid good money to see that, and a week after they got a title change on SmackDown, we had…a food fight?

Let’s just call it what it was…a really bad night. Maybe an off night, sure, but this was two hours of not very fun sports entertainment.

Overall highlights:

Um…I guess the main event was OK? But that’s clearly not a ringing endorsement or anything. Besides, it was only OK on a night stacked with mediocrity. And I think that is being extremely kind.

After the final bell:

Nothing much to say really. I think this show can go down as a great reason why wrestling needs an off-season, or at least some designated down times during the year. Sometimes, everyone needs some time off, and the time around a major American holiday is a great time to get some of that.
