pete davidson dan crenshaw

“Saturday Night Live” hit a new low over the weekend when star Pete Davidson mocked Texas Republican congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw, who lost an eye while serving in Afghanistan.

Fox News reported that Davidson, 24, appeared in the sketch comedy show’s Weekend Update segment to offer his first impressions of some of the candidates who are running for office this week. When Crenshaw’s photo appeared on the screen, Davidson started to laugh.

“You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hit man in a porno movie,” Davidson said. “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever…”

Dan Crenshaw responds in classiest way possible

Crenshaw lost his eye after stepping on an IED while serving his country in Afghanistan. The brave veteran fired back at Davidson on Twitter on Sunday in an incredibly classy way.

“Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended,” Crenshaw tweeted. “That being said,  I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.”

It’s both ironic and despicable that Davidson mocked Crenshaw for an injury he received while fighting to protect the very freedoms that allow the young comedian to make ridiculous jokes like this one. Davidson knows nothing of the sacrifices made by veterans like Crenshaw, who put their lives on the line to protect the rest of us every day.

Davidson lost his father in the September 11th terrorist attacks back in 2001, something that he joked about on “Saturday Night Live” just a few weeks ago. He may think that losing a father in a terrorist attack gives him the right to say whatever he pleases about military veterans, but he’s wrong. Regardless of what anyone has gone through themselves, it is never alright to mock the injuries that veterans were left with after fighting for our country. It’s time for “Saturday Night Live” to let the country know that they stand with our veterans by FIRING Pete Davidson!
