Miranda Lambert Makes a Bitter Comment About Her Number 1 Song

Country stars Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert have a No. 1 song with their hit “Drowns the Whiskey.

How did the song get so popular? Lambert believes she has the answer.

“Yes, I had to sing with someone with a penis to get a number one,” Miranda Lambert told the Washington Post.

“I do like this person, Jason Aldean, a lot . . . so it was a great song with an old friend,” Lambert said. “It is interesting that I haven’t had even a Top 20 in a long, long time. And then it goes No. 1 because it’s a dude.”

Lambert says the male factor she believes helped get her such a big hit ultimately “doesn’t matter” though, “But you know — if we went and looked at how many singles or records were sold for the Top 10 songs right now, I’d probably triple it on record sales. So it doesn’t matter.”

Women in the still male-dominated country music industry have long complained about chauvinism and unequal treatment. Going all the way back to 1952, singer Kitty Wells’ song “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” became the first number one hit by a solo female country artist. But since the song portrayed men – particularly cheating men – in a bad light, Wells wasn’t allowed to perform it at the Grand Ole Opry.

In fact, there are many such unfair double standards in country music.

But Lambert says she was just making an observation. She wasn’t trying to get political or preachy.

“I am a 100 percent believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music because music to me is an escape from your own reality,” Lambert said last year.

“I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.”

Some fans were really unhappy with her comment. They saw it as whining and disrespectful to Aldean.
