Linda McMahon’s New Role? + WarGames With Less Matches?

Linda McMahon used to be WWE President and CEO. As she began seeking a role in politics, she distanced herself from the family business. When friend Donald Trump became president in 2016, Linda McMahon was tabbed for a role in Trump’s cabinet. Currently, she leads the Small Business Administration.

There is talk that her role within the Trump Cabinet could be evolving. CNBC has reported that President Trump could be making a change, possibly looking to replace his current Commerce Secretary (Wilbur Ross). If Trump does indeed make a change, Linda McMahon is believed to be his choice as a replacement. The report states that if offered, McMahon has expressed to Trump’s inner circle that she would indeed accept the position.

For the former WWE executive, it would be another political victory for her career. Though she was unable be elected to office in Connecticut, she’s found a niche in politics nonetheless.

-NXT TakeOver: WarGames takes place this Saturday in Los Angeles. It is, as usual, part of Survivor Series weekend. The second edition of this iteration of War Games features The Match Beyond, pitting Undisputed Era versus War Raiders, Ricochet and Pete Dunne.

Typically, every TakeOver show features five matches on the main card, plus a number of matches filmed for later NXT TV airings. Now it’s being reported that this year’s WarGames will instead only have four featured matches. In addition to the WarGames match, we have the NXT Women’s Title match featuring Shayna Baszler defending against Kairi Sane; the NXT Championship will be on the line as Tommaso Ciampa defends against Velveteen Dream; and in a grudge match, Johnny Gargano and Aleister Black will do battle.

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer reported that the decision to keep the card at four main matches had good justification. Specifically, the idea was to ensure that each match is given plenty of time to run. WarGames itself is a massive match which should take up close to an hour of the show. Gargano’s last several TakeOver showings have each run around thirty minutes as well, so between those two, that’s half the show right there. It’s encouraging to see WWE wants to ensure quality over quantity, even if it means we might miss out on Matt Riddle’s TakeOver debut.

John Deegan

Introduced to professional wrestling in the 1980's thanks to Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event, John's passion for the medium was reborn thanks to ECW in the 90's. A former in-ring "talent" with a career 0-2 record, he finds it more rewarding, and far less painful, to write about wrestling now.
