Khabib Nurmagomedov Outlines Why Bout With Floyd Mayweather Jr. is “Much More Interesting” Than Scrap With Tony Ferguson

Following Nurmagomedov’s submission win over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 last month, the galaxy class grappler challenged Mayweather Jr. to a fight. The undefeated boxer said he was down for the contest, but of course, we’re talking about a boxing match and not a MMA fight (as Mayweather Jr. would clearly never agree to fight Khabib under MMA rules).

Well, at a recent event in Moscow, the undefeated fighter reportedly said this, when asked about facing Mayweather Jr. over Tony Ferguson (quote via MMA Junkie):

“For legacy and in the sense of the money aspect, and in a sporting sense, I think the Mayweather fight is much more interesting,” Nurmagomedov said, before referring to his upcoming hearing with the Nevada Commission, on account of the post-fight brawl at UFC 229. “The athletics commission needs to finish up first and then we’ll talk.”

Of course, the chances of the UFC signing onto this are slim and none. The UFC wants to move forward with the lightweight title, after it was put on hold by McGregor’s bout with Mayweather Jr., and you also have to wonder if there would be much of a market for that fight either.

But, if you’re a hardcore fan who wants to see Khabib and “El Cucuy” fight sooner than later, these comments probably aren’t sitting well.
