WWE Evolution 2018: 5 Real Winners

The WWE returned to pay per view with Sunday’s Evolution, where a title changed hands and seven matches were shoved down our throats. Overall, the 4 plus hours moved along but the show felt slightly bland at times. Somewhere in that mix of ordinary, five wrestlers that left Evolution as real winners. If you missed Evolution, be sure to check our results.

Toni Storm

After months of episodes on the WWE Network, the 2018 Mae Young Classic named a winner in Toni Storm. The way she had been featured on NXT UK and various articles on WWE’s website, you knew she had to be a favorite once we got down to the final four participants. Look back at the previous winner of the tournament, Kairi Sane. After a slow start in NXT, she went on to become their women’s champion. It was one of the shorter reigns, but still an impressive feat as only a handful of women have held that title. And many, have gone on to also capture gold on RAW or SmackDown. Big things are in store for Storm and possibly on NXT UK against Rhea Ripley.

Io Shirai

In a tournament of 32 women from across the globe, being runner-up is nothing to be ashamed about. Io Shirai is one of the top female wrestlers in Japan, but she was not well-known to United States fans. She blew minds throughout the tournament and solidified her status as a star during the finals against Toni Storm. Last year, Shayna Baszler also came up as runner-up and she received the biggest push out of the 2017 batch of tournament participants. The biggest hurdle will be the English language as Vince McMahon wants his top draws being able to deliver promos.

Charlotte Flair

Going into the Last Woman Standing Match, Charlotte Flair was facing adversary from the fans. Despite being the better athlete, Charlotte was being treated like the heel. After delivering an unforgettable performance, fans showed their gratitude. Charlotte has to be one of the best wrestlers currently on the WWE roster and she showed that on Sunday. Both told a story with their emotions, but I have to give Charlotte the nod as she is the superior competitor. The loss did not hurt Charlotte and hopefully the fans will start treating her like a face.

Becky Lynch

Right now, Becky Lynch is at the peak of her WWE career. After being overlooked for so many years, she has used her latest opportunity to the fullest. It brought her to the first WWE Last Woman Standing Match, where she and Charlotte stole the show. Becky showed she is not afraid to go extreme brining chairs, tables and kendo sticks in the mix. Oh yea, there was also that leg drop off a ladder and through the announce table. If anyone deserved to win on Sunday, it was Becky. It showed that WWE is not investing everything into Charlotte and Ronda Rousey.

Nia Jax

Oftentimes, Battle Royals are tossed together when WWE needs to add names onto a card. That was probably the case with the Battle Royal that featured talent from decades ago until the present. The biggest winners were Nia Jax, Mandy Rose and Tamina Snuka. Mandy was on fire with all her eliminations. Tamina retuned and lasted towards the end. But, Nia Jax got the victory and has earned a RAW Women’s Championship shot. Considering the look on Nia’s face at the conclusion of the pay per view, that match should happen any time after Survivor Series. There can only be one true winner in a Battle Royal, which went Nia.
