It might seem like a bad idea to name a ship “Titanic” after the most famous shipwreck in history, but it’s happening.

“Australian businessman and politician Clive Palmer, who is behind the controversial initiative, announced in September that work on the ship had recommenced — after a financial dispute with the Chinese government halted development back in 2015,” reports CNN Travel. “The idea was first floated in 2012.”

Obviously, we live in 2018 and not 1912, the year the original Titanic struck an iceberg and sank, so the new vessel will have plenty of lifeboats, modern radar equipment and everything else to avoid disaster.

But the coolest part that should have many intrigued is that Titanic II is said to be an exact replica of the original.

“Blue Star Line says the nine-decked ship will be home to 835 cabins, set to accommodate 2,435 passengers. You’ll be able to buy first-, second- and third-class tickets — just like in the original,” CNN Travel notes.

The best part:

It’ll be outfitted exactly like the original Titanic — including the grand staircase that plays a memorable role in James Cameron’s hit movie.

Near, Far, Wherever You Are…

One can imagine fans of James Cameron’s 1997 mega-hit film might be excited to wine and dine on the real thing, or at least a real replica.

The physical ship itself is not the only thing that will be replicated.

“The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, but she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivaled attention, intrigue and mystery in every port she visits,” said Palmer.

The maiden voyage in 2022 will reportedly be from Dubai to New York.

Fans of the movie or mere history buffs might get a kick out of taking a trip on one of the most famous ships in history.

And we can be sure in this day and time history won’t repeat itself. Expect Titanic II to…

Go on and on…
