‘The Conners’ Second Episode Ratings Without Roseanne Plummeted

ABC executives are undoubtedly in panic mode right now after ratings for their “Roseanne” spinoff  “The Conners” plummeted in just the second week of the show.

Fox News reported that ratings for the show were down 25 percent from the premiere for episode two. While 10.5 million viewers tuned in to the premiere, just 7.9 tuned in to the second episode. It is believed that many people tuned in to the premiere only to see how Roseanne Barr’s beloved character of Roseanne Conner was killed off.

The premiere of “The Conners” itself was a massive letdown in ratings from the premiere of the “Roseanne” reboot in 2017, with 35% less viewers tuning in to the new sitcom.

ABC Regrets Firing Barr So Quickly

This just goes to show that ABC made a massive mistake in firing Barr so hastily back in the spring immediately after she posted an offensive tweet about Valerie Jarrett, Barack Obama’s former advisor. Though Barr apologized for the tweet immediately, ABC submitted to liberals by firing her hours later. Prior to the premiere of “The Conners,” insiders admitted that executives at ABC regretted firing Barr so hastily.

“We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben[Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,” an insider said, according to Hollywood Life. “This would have given them more time to listen to the public, advertisers and cast members to determine the best decision.”

“The whisper across ABC is that they will not even be a quarter of what Roseanne achieved last season,” the source added of the new sitcom.

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to see the abysmal ratings of “The Conners” coming. “Roseanne” was such a popular show largely because of Barr’s presence. Without her, the show has lost its heart and soul, so it comes as no surprise that nobody wants to watch it.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
