It’s been months since ABC executives fired Roseanne Barr from her own sitcom over a tweet of hers that they deemed to be offensive. Since then, the liberal world of Hollywood has continued to blacklist Barr despite her frequent heartfelt apologies. That’s why it came as a welcome surprise this week when one Hollywood legend broke ranks and spoke out in defense of Barr.
Fox News reported that Suzanne Somers of “Three’s Company” fame just defended Barr and slammed ABC for firing her so quickly, pointing out that this move has since come back to haunt them.
“The anti-Trumps won in this case, but really I think the network lost big,” Somers said. “The ratings on the spinoff show were nowhere near what any one of the ‘Roseanne’ shows accomplished.”
Ratings For “The Conners” Plummet
Somers has facts on her side here, as the ratings for “The Conners” have been abysmal. Ratings for the series premiere were far below the ratings for the reboot of “Roseanne” last year, and the ratings went down a staggering 25 percent in week two of the new show. Somers explained that ABC “won’t be able to sit with that for very long, unless some miracle happens.”
She went on to praise Barr for the bravery she showed in being open about her pro-Donald Trump views in the liberal industry of Hollywood.
“Roseanne is extremely unique, and she’s fearless,” Somers said. “[She] took a point of view that’s very unpopular right now, so she hit the eye of the storm … with the 50 percent of the country who is pro-Trump and 50 percent who is not.”
Suzanne Somers Is Pro-Trump
As a Trump supporter herself, Somers knows all too well what it’s like to be a conservative in Hollywood. Like Barr, she has also bravely expressed her pro-Trump views, being one of the rare conservative actors to do so.
“I’m happy about him,” she said of Trump earlier this year. “I’m happy that the economy is doing so much better.”
“And now my career is over!” Somers added. Though she was half joking, there was a lot of truth in this statement, as it is hard to name an openly pro-Trump actor who is actually getting jobs in Hollywood today.
It’s so refreshing to see an actor defend Barr. She admitted to making a mistake, as all of us do as humans, yet liberals in Hollywood refuse to forgive her. Meanwhile, they are all too willing to forgive any liberal star that makes a mistake. It’s time for Hollywood to give Barr a second chance, and it’s time for more conservative actors like Somers to step up and speak out about their conservative views!
