Since leaving WWE, Cody Rhodes has became a global star and one of the biggest draws on the wrestling market. So, it should come as no surprise that promotions are trying to secure Cody to a deal.
Signing a new deal could happen sooner than many thought as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that his Ring of Honor (ROH) contract ends on October 31, which is less than a week away. Since Cody is working Chris Jericho’s Cruise, which runs from October 27-31, his ROH deal will expire while he is competing across the ocean.
The belief is Cody will continue to work with ROH until the end of the year or into early 2019. A major factor for Cody moving forward involves The Young Bucks and Adam Page as the group does not want to leave anyone behind. WWE has already tried to have Page sign, but his reason for not signing a contract was the same as Cody: he does not want to break up the group.
As for Cody winning the NWA World Championship at All In on September 1 and then dropping it back to Nick Aldis less than two months later at NWA 70, that was always the plan. The NWA and ROH worked out a deal which would allow the title change and also see Aldis work a few shows for ROH.
As for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Cody does not have an actual contract with them. Still, he has enjoyed his time working with the promotion and wants to keep wrestling for them.
The next two months will be interesting as WWE knows the value in Cody, The Young Bucks, Page, Kenny Omega, Marty Scurll and few others from the stables Bullet Club and Elite. While WWE has the money advantage, other wrestling promotions could offer more creative control in their contracts.
