Jim Carrey Shamed For How He Painted Aretha Franklin After Her Death

Jim Carrey has made a habit of making a fool out of himself on Twitter in the past couple of years. Usually, his stupidity is politically motivated, but the Dumb and Dumber star really stepped in it when he swung and missed in an attempt to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin.

The Queen of Soul passed away on Thursday. While people were honoring her achievements, Jim Carrey thought he would get in on the action. He painted a picture of Aretha Franklin and shared it on Twitter. Except he forgot one important thing about Aretha.

Aretha had only been dead for hours when this Trump hating actor apparently forgot that she was black. He gave her face a peach color. This was a colossal mistake as Franklin was a very proud black woman.

Jim Carrey certainly got a lot of attention after tweeting a pale Aretha Franklin right after her passing. People were quick to point out that she was not a white woman.

Some tweeted back at Carrey that they thought the painting was of actress Kathy Bates rather than Aretha Franklin.

Alec The Preacher went to the trouble of fixing Carrey’s painting and adding color to her face. While this is better, it still shows that Carrey painted someone who doesn’t even resemble Franklin.

Jim Carrey had his defenders. Some tweeted that her face was white because she was looking at the light after her death. But, it’s hard to imagine that was Carrey’s intention as he has used his art to mock religion. He mocks Christianity in particular. Maybe this was the actor’s way of mocking Aretha Franklin for being a Christian.

Whatever Carrey’s plan was, it backfired in brutal fashion. It’s very bizarre that he portrayed Franklin as a White woman. Perhaps this liberal actor is trying to redefine white privilege!
