Missing Girl Is Nowhere To Be Found, But Someone Saw Her Leave

A Missouri family was in a complete panic when their 3-year-old daughter went missing. When rescuers finally found the girl, her devoted Yorkshire Terrier named Fat Heath was there with her. He never left her side.

Timber Merritt went looking for her daughter Remy Elliott, but soon realized she was going to need help. She called 911 at 8:30 PM on Thursday. Eventually, about 100 people showed up to search for the missing preschooler.

“I looked for her by myself thinking maybe she was just in the woods or somewhere where I just couldn’t see her,” the mother said. “And I was calling for her and calling for her, and when she wasn’t calling back I realized I don’t think I’m going to find her on my own.”

A search began with an airplane that was not able to locate Remy overnight. Early Friday morning, rescuers set out upon the cornfields in hopes of finding her. Shortly after 8 am, rescue dogs began barking. This caused Fat Heath to bark back. The young girl was found asleep amidst the cornstalks about a mile from her home.

Remy was likely very scared spending a night in the cornfield. The tiny dog was her protector and was with her during the entire ordeal.

“They said that she was asleep when he picked her up,” Remy’s mother said. “She was definitely exhausted, hot, really sweaty and it took a while to drink anything. She said she wasn’t scared because Fat Heath was there. If he wasn’t I think she would’ve been terrified.”

Don’t discount the importance of a dog, even a very small one! Fat Heath, who isn’t even fat, protected that vulnerable child. He couldn’t protect her from the mosquitos, which bit her all night long, but he gave her companionship while she was frightened and alone in the dark.

Merritt said she plans to put a fence around the yard or find a way to keep the curious girl from getting out of the house on her own. That is obviously a good idea. She should always keep Fat Heath around, too!
