Jerry Seinfeld Takes A Stand For Roseanne

Jerry Seinfeld made it known that he didn’t think Roseanne Barr should have been fired. He’s a little bewildered how an entire career that spanned decades could end because of one tweet.

He sat down with “Entertainment Tonight” before the premiere of the new season of his Netflix show “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” when the topic of Roseanne came up.

While Seinfeld is glad that the show will be spun-off and the others associated with it will continue working, he also doesn’t understand why Roseanne’s character should have been written off even after the star was fired from her own show.

“I think they should get another Roseanne,” Seinfeld told ET. “They brought [John Goodman’s character] Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can’t we get another Roseanne? There’s other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job.”

He thought it was bizarre that Roseanne was fired so quickly. Her show was on top. People were tuning in in records numbers. Yet, one tweet took her down even though she immediately apologized. He also told USA Today that Barr’s firing was “overkill.”

“I didn’t see why it was necessary to fire her. Why would you murder someone who’s committing suicide?” Seinfeld continued. “Yeah, that had to be. But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push. That was fresh.”

Seinfeld’s discussion about Roseanne Barr’s firing can be seen in the video below.

Seinfeld is right. Her swift firing for that tweet was unprecedented for a comic of her status. She has been well known for decades but the push of a button did her in.

Seinfeld was recently given the invitation to mock President Trump on David Letterman’s show. He declined and said that he doesn’t do Trump jokes. He understands that Americans don’t want to be saturated with liberal political lectures.
