High School Janitor Puts Kneelers To Shame Singing The National Anthem

A high school janitor ended his career in epic fashion. Thurman Carthen sang the National Anthem for Galena High School graduation. His emotional performance was so power-packed that it even brought tears to his own eyes.

Carthen sings at First Baptist Church of Black Springs every Sunday. He would also sing while working at the high school, particularly on birthdays. But, the 65-year-old wasn’t expecting to be given the honor of singing the National Anthem. When the graduating seniors at this Nevada school asked him, he happily obliged.

“I mean, I help the kids hang up their banners and stuff, but this was really something,” the singing janitor said.

Carthen had never publicly sang the National Anthem before, but he did it in such an impressive fashion that it’s likely to be remembered by everyone in attendance. Before a crowd of thousands, the retiring janitor pumped his fists in the air, closed his eyes and sang his heart out.

“This is a great way to end my career,” he said. “I mean, I help the kids hang up their banners and stuff, but this was really something.”

While so many leftists protest during the National Anthem, Carthen embraced it. He is not joining in on Colin Kaepernick‘s protests and his love for our country and those students came through in his performance.

It’s important to treat people from all walks of life with dignity. My grandfather constantly reminded to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. These high schoolers were obviously taught the same thing. In an era filled with disrespect, it is wonderful to see these graduates recognize, honor, and celebrate their janitor.

Carthen was definitely appreciated for his work at Galena High School. “My perspective on Thurman is he is one of the nicest, most sincere people you could ever meet,” said principal Tom Brown.
