Is CM Punk Done With Pro Wrestling? He Responds

CM Punk had a busy week. He won a lawsuit against WWE’s doctor and then had to prepare for a fight at UFC 225 against Mike Jackson.

As he prepared for and promoted the fight, reporters asked Punk the usual round of questions. One of those is whether or not Punk would ever return to wrestling. In an interview with MMAFighting.com Punk addressed the possibility of returning to the squared circle.

“I don’t think so, it’s a hard question to answer, a lot’s happened this week,” Punk said. “I could definitely tell you if you asked me that question a week ago when I still felt like I had a foot in the grave, the answer [would have been] no, I don’t want anything to do with it. I feel like I’m out and the future is yet to be written, it’s a wide open book, it’s my story to tell.

That got people going nuts. With indie mega-event ALL IN slated for September, many saw this as a slim possibility that the Second City Saint would return to wrestling. But that was short-lived. In a second interview, Punk slammed the door definitively on ever returning.

CM Punk Is A Wrestler

Here’s the funny thing: Punk is not ‘done’ with professional wrestling. He is only in the position of competing in his second match ever on a UFC PPV card because of wrestling. To dismiss wrestling as “in the past” is silly and disingenuous on his part. I believe him when he says he never wants to wrestle again. He no longer sees himself as a pro-wrestler. But the problem with that he is famous and in UFC because of his wrestling fame. To dismiss it and discount it is silly.

Punk doesn’t owe fans anything. He’s right about that. But he owes wrestling some gratitude. But, Punk is going to be Punk. He’s a notoriously selfish and self-centered person. He thinks he got here all on his own. DIY BS. Mike Jackson is another pretender who got to the UFC more on fame than skill. Appropriately, both Punk and Jackson were choked-out by real UFC-caliber fighter Mickey Gall. Jackson and Punk’s match at UFC 225 was a total embarrassment and a slap in the face to paying fans.

The match ended up being so embarrassing that both Jackson and Punk were effectively fired from UFC by Dana White. Punk, with his usual grace, refused a post-match interview and sprinted off to be moody and sad and paranoid somewhere. Good Riddance.
