The entire world is in shock today after culinary legend Anthony Bourdain committed suicide on Friday. He was 61 years-old.
CNN confirmed the death of the “Parts Unknown” host in a statement.
“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” the network said in a statement Friday morning. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Bourdain was in France at the time of his death filming an episode of his television show “Parts Unknown.” He was found dead in his hotel room by his longtime friend Eric Ripert, a French chef who often appeared on his show.
“Tony was an exceptional talent,” CNN President Jeff Zucker said in an email to employees. “Tony will be greatly missed not only for his work but also for the passion with which he did it.”
For the past year, Bourdain had been dating actress Asia Argento, one of the accusers of disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Bourdain had been incredibly supportive of Argento and had been a major advocate of the Me Too movement. She has not yet broken her silence after his passing.
Bourdain also leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter, Ariane.
President Donald Trump spoke out to pay tribute to Bourdain on Friday after learning of his death.
“I think its very sad,” Trump said. “I want to extend to his family my heartfelt condolences. That was very shocking. When I woke up this morning, ‘Anthony Bourdain is dead.’ And I enjoyed his show, he was quite a character, I will say. So, I just want to extend my condolences, and also to the family of Kate Spade.”
Spade committed suicide on Tuesday in New York City.

It’s incredibly sad that Bourdain found himself in such a dark place that he chose to take his own life. This serves as a sobering reminder that we never really know what anyone else is going through in their lives, so it is important to be kind to one another as much as possible.
