Experts Would Never Advise She Get This Close to a Wolf But She Did

Most of us think of wolves as violent predators. Afterall, they do hunt to survive. However, video of a wolf being very affectionate with a woman is shocking a lot of people and smashing beliefs about this animal.

Kekoa lives at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. He arrived there with his sister Sakara when they were just puppies. The Center adopted them from a preserve in Florida.

Michelle Smith, who works at the center, said they had big plans for Kekoa and his sister, but that didn’t really come to fruition. “We had hoped they would be ambassadors (animals we can take off-site) but sadly, like most wolves and high-content wolf dogs, once they reached maturity they became very shy and ‘retired’ at the ripe old age of two.”

Kekoa is a very large wolf. When he stands on his hind legs, he is over seven feet tall! Regardless of his size, this big guy is very shy, particularly around men. In contrast, he absolutely turns into a submissive and affectionate creature when he gets a visit from his caretaker Danielle.

When Danielle approaches, Kekoa’s demeanor completely changes. He licks her face and even rolls onto his back so Danielle can pet his belly! This wolf acts like a family dog does when his owner is around.

Of course, Kekoa’s behavior isn’t to be expected from wild wolves. He was raised by humans, so he is the exception.

“Since he was raised by people and bottle fed from the time he was born, he is very well socialized, meaning he enjoys the company of people,” Smith said. “This is not the same as domesticated or tame. He is still a ‘wild’ animal, and he does tend to show it when he is around his sister. A wolf in the wild would not act this way.”

Wolves are typically shy. If they approach humans, it usually means there is something physically wrong with the animal. That’s what makes Kekoa so special.
