Actress and Country Music Hall of Famer Reba McEntire hosted the 53rd Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards on Sunday in Las Vegas, and she had everyone in stitches with her fantastic opening monologue. And if you can believe it, she did it all without insulting the president, race-baiting, or bringing any sort of politics into her speech.

McEntire has hosted the ACM Awards a total of 15 times. The last time she hosted, in 2012, she did so alongside Blake Shelton. However, this time around she did it solo – and she made sure to point out that it’s probably better that way:

Reba hosted the show solo for several years before Blake Shelton joined her as a co-host earlier this decade. Shelton then co-hosted with Luke Bryan, who then co-hosted with Dierks Bentley. Quipped Reba, “I guess they finally figured it out – It only takes one woman to do the job of two men.”

But that was far from McEntire’s only zinger of the night. She also touched on the numerous babies that have been born to country music stars this year, saying of Chris Stapleton’s new twins, “I guess what happens in Vegas comes out in Nashville.”

Of course, always one with a good sense of humor, McEntire also riffed on herself. “I first hosted this show in 1986,” she told the crowd. “To put that in perspective, not only was Kelsea Ballerini not born, her parents weren’t even dating yet.”

Poking fun at her age again, McEntire mentioned that she and Kelly Clarkson would tribute 1993 by singing her song, “Does He Love you.” “I wanted Kelly to sing it with me originally, but she was in the fourth grade,” McEntire cracked.

Noting that the ACM Awards were looking back on 25 years, McEntire said, “Do you remember the biggest thing in 1993? My hair! Jacked up to Jesus!”

McEntire couldn’t have done a better job warming up the crowd, and her fantastic turn hosting the ACM’s proves that they continue to be a wholesome family-friendly awards show when most others are riddled with political and social rhetoric.
